With 35 mm and B&W, the movie will take you to places where you'd feel ackward and desperate. And I mean it in the best way possible. The atmosphere created in the movie is masterful, and, with the incredible performance of Dafoe and Pattinson, you get a sweet dark pie. One of the best films ever made. I am very glad I watched this. Hands down best movie of the year. Such a thrill ride from start to finish and it really gives you this feeling of tension like no other.

Give that goat an Oscar. Always a party at the lighthouse. First bit is like the spreading ashes scene from big Lebowski. This film fell short of my expectations. I loved The Witch and felt like it is a masterpiece as far as depiction the horrors and lure of witchcraft films are concerned.
At the end of the film, I felt like saying "that was really well made and atmospheric and hell yeah"
I didn't love it but I knew it was a film making classic.
But a couple weeks later, I realize this is a fantastic movie and likely to move up to a masterpiece rating. I am going to see it multiple times over in my life and I think it is truly worth checking out if you like good films.

If you don't think that you are going to see a movie of the calibre of The Shining or Psyco, you have very goog chances to enjoy the experience.

Maybe the whole reason mermaids look so sexy is so that they can trick humans into coming into the water so they can kill and feed off of them somehow, like they only evolved to look like attractive humans so the cans feed of us, and stays hidden from humans so they are only legend like theyre ultra intelligent in a different way. The way it smiles and streaks like a human/dolphin hybrid shreak its way of calling other mermaids to feed it just got stuck on shore is the only difference.

I loved it. Feel like this movie is heavily inspired by the work of Samuel Beckett, Andrei Tarkovsky and David Lynch and that's a really good news! We need more of our mental space to be occupied by the narratives like these instead of being spoonfed reasons and interpretations. Think about this movie like a piece of poetry or an abstract painting rather than your usual: intruduction - confrontation - resolution kind of story, as this movie has multiple or non of these depending of how you decide to aproach it. Acting is absolutely top notch, accompanied by very theatrical and minimalist approach to a degree that every item and scene matters. Great cinema overall.
